The Cost of Being Cool

No one wants to be in the middle of the desert when they realize they didn’t bring enough water. For many of us, our air conditioner is water in the desert during the summer heat, and for others it could make the difference in life and death. When it goes down, we panic. One of the cheapest and easiest ways to keep from having a mid summer panic attack is by doing what you can to keep you air conditioner clean. Replacing or hosing out you air conditioner’s filter at least once a month has several benefits. Never crosses you mind? Read on.

One benefit of keeping your air conditioner filter clean is that it will blow harder. Think about a hair dryer. If the filter on the side is clogged up with lint and dust, it is going to take you twice as long to dry your hair. When your air has to work twice as hard to circulate air, it strains the unit more than it already is in high temperatures, runs twice as long which increases your electric bill (who needs that), and increases the possibility that a vital and expensive component ( like a compressor) will fail just when you need it the most.

The better you air conditioner runs, the longer the unit itself will last. This may sound like a no-brainer but it merits being said. According to the EPA and Energy Star, neglecting the filter is the most common cause of air conditioner units failing. Not to mention the pollutants that a filter will catch, keeping the air cleaner and healthier for you and you family!

Whether you have a central or window air conditioning unit, it is vital and necessary for comfort, energy saving, money saving, environmental responsibility, and for healthy breathing to ensure that your home’s air conditioner filter is clean and free from clogs. Unless you are one of the lucky few that happens to have at least a few thousand dollars lying around to throw away.
