How to Clean a Coffee Grinder

As is the case with any machine that has moving components, it is natural for a coffee grinder to require cleaning from time to time. Fortunately, cleaning a coffee grinder is not a difficult task by any means, and does not take too much time either. However, you will need to take certain safety precautions into consideration before cleaning a coffee grinder.  The fact that some people often use a coffee grinder to grind herbs and spices besides coffee makes it even more important to clean the grinder, to ensure that the taste of coffee beans does not change after they have been ground.

Things Required:

– Clean cloth or paper towels
– Uncooked rice
– Dishwashing liquid

Instructions

  • 1

Before you start cleaning the coffee grinder, ensure that you will be working in a risk free environment by unplugging the grinder from the power source.

  • 2

Use a paper towel or clean cloth to clean out the residue accumulated inside the coffee grinder since the time it was last cleaned. Clean out as much of the residue as you can.

  • 3

Plug in the grinder and then add a handful of uncooked rice to it. Turn the grinder on at the lowest speed and allow time for the rice to be ground finely. This practice is very useful at getting rid of coffee odours. However, you might have to repeat this step more than once if you are cleaning out your coffee grinder after a very long period of time.

  • 4

Remove the grinder’s plug from the power source once again and empty the grinder. As before, wipe clean the coffee grinder’s interior using a paper towel or clean cloth.

  • 5

To clean the grinder’s lid, use a dishwashing liquid. Wash the lid with your hands and allow time for the lid to dry completely in open air.

  • 6

For cleaning the exterior of the coffee grinder, simply use a damp cloth or paper towel. For cleaning harsh stains, you may have to rub the grinder’s surface more vigorously.
