How to Cook Broccoli Rabe

If you are tired of eating meat products, you should try some vegetables, as they are extremely good for health. Rather than preparing typical vegetable recipes, you should opt for something unique like the broccoli rabe.

It is a good source of vitamins A, C and K and mothers should prepare this for their kids on regular basis. One of the best things about this delicious vegetable is that it can be cooked quite easily. You don’t need any extra ingredients to prepare it, thus it saves you time and money.

Broccoli rabe: 1/2 kg
Vegetable oil: 3 tsp
Onion: 1/2
Garlic: 2 cloves

    Choose broccoli rabe

    Look for fresh broccoli rabe from the market. Select the one with green and crisp leaves - the one with yellowish texture is not good. Moreover, you have to ensure that there are no dark patches on the vegetable you are buying.

    Wash the broccoli rabe

    Once you have bought the fresh broccoli rabe, wash it properly with cold water. Keep it away from water until you want to cook it. If you make broccoli rabe damp and store it somewhere, it will start decaying soon and will be of no use at all.

    Cut off the stems

    Using a sharp knife, cut off all stems from the broccoli rabe and place them in a bowl. The stems can also be cooked, but they need to be separated for that purpose. They are a bid hard when prepared, so some people opt to throw them away.

    Fill a pan with water

    Half fill a pan with water and put it on a stove at low heat. Put the chopped broccoli rabe and its stems in the pan and let it simmer for a few minutes. If you like, you can add the leaves too, which also taste pretty good after being cooked.

    Add onion and garlic

    At this stage, you can add onion and garlic cloves in the pan. Allow the water to boil and once it does, simmer for another couple of minutes.

    Microwave the broccoli rabe

    Microwave the broccoli rabe for one minute in order to get rid of the moisture. Meanwhile, add some oil the pan and heat it on medium heat.

    Saute until tender

    Finally, sauté the vegetable for a few minutes until it becomes tender. You can then serve it in a plate, once it gets a bit cold.
