As an employee, you will be required to fill section 1 of the form on the first day of your employment before the end of the day. Include all your particulars in the form which are required and once you have completed the section, sign the form in the designated area.
Fill in Appropriate Citizenship Status
This is an important thing to do. If you are a citizen than you will obviously be ticking that box. However, if you are a citizen of another country living as a permanent resident or a student who is allowed to work for certain number of hours, be sure to state your status correctly. If you fill it in wrongly, it can create problems for you later on.
Proof of Identity
You are required to provide two proofs of identity along with the filled form. It is generally you’re State ID card or driver’s license and the social security card. You will need to show the originals and provide the employer with the copies to file with the forms. In case you do not have an id card or a driver’s license yet, you can use your passport for the same purpose.
If you have problems with filling out the form yourself due to trouble with language proficiency, you can get it prepared from someone else but make sure that the person fills in the section designated for him or her as the preparer. This is important and make sure you get that area filled as well.
Your part is now done. The employer will now fill his or her section and file in the form to the related authorities. Make sure that you do it if the local laws require you to do so.
