How to Get Chlorine Out Of Your Hair

Chlorine is often added to water to keep it clean and free of contaminants. Swimming pools need to be sterilized with this chemical on a regular basis as well. Not only does chlorine reduce the risk of algae formation in the pool due to sunlight, it also neutralizes contaminants like sweat and urine, making the water suitable for swimming. While chlorine is essential to keep the water clean, it is quite difficult to remove it from your hair after a swim, and can cause hair damage if not washed out properly.

Instructions

  • 1

The first step is to shower with a shampoo immediately after you have had a swim. Since most pools have high doses of chlorine, extra and immediate care is required to clean the hair.

  • 2

It is better that you have a supply of shampoo specifically made to remove chlorine. These shampoos can readily be found at your nearest grocery store.

  • 3

Always use a conditioner after showering as it helps restore shine and protects the hair.

  • 4

Washing off chlorine can be very difficult as it chemically reacts with your skin and hair. Be thorough with shampooing and scrub your scalp properly.

  • 5

Take a spray bottle of water and dissolve five grams (one teaspoon) of vitamin C crystals in it. Now shake the bottle well so that the crystals are properly mixed and spray it all over your body, especially making sure that you cover your hair with it. This will remove any chlorine smell on you and you will notice it immediately.

The next step requires you to make a baking soda solution. This solution will completely remove chlorine from your hair.

  • 7

Take one tablespoon of baking soda and mix it in one cup of water. Now wash your hair with this solution. If your hair feel slimy while shampooing then this means that the solution is working. Wash your hair normally as the solution and the chlorine will get washed off in the process.

You can use a tomato paste for the same purpose, just wash your hair after a swim with a normal shampoo, then apply this paste, which should be prepared before you shower. Let the paste stay in your hair for 30 minutes then wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner.

You can also take lemon powder and Prell and mix them together in a bowl. Stir with the help of a spoon to be sure they are properly mixed.

  • 10

Now rub the solution on your hair gently but thoroughly.

  • 11

Leave it in for 10 to 20 minutes and then wash your hair with a shampoo.
