How to Get Rid Of a Bad Cough and Sore Throat

The worst condition one can possibly have is when he or she is suffering from a bad cough and sore throat. It is a painful condition that does not let you concentrate on any of your routine activity, and sometimes aches and shakes up your whole body. Particularly when you have to do something important and you are having a bad cough with sore throat, you feel like as if you are being punished. Although you can go to the doctor for advice and treatment, but there are some useful methods of getting rid of bad cough and sore throat by yourself.  The best thing that has worked for me and many others i know personally is Salt. As soon as you feel your throat acting up, take the following steps. But here is the key, it is best to eat a bit of salt just before you go to bed. Do not eat or drink anything else after.  Even brushing your teeth, do so before you eat the Salt.

You will see a noticeable difference the following morning.  Salt acts as antibiotics and sucks the water out of the bacteria causing it to die.  Read on to find other ways to get rid of sore throat.

    Drink Water to Stay Hydrated

    Having a dry cough means that your throat is dry, and it must be understood that during a dry cough your body requires more water intake. Hence it is advised to drink eight 8-oz. glasses of warm water daily for the betterment of health.

    Eucalyptus Oil

    If you rub Eucalyptus oil on your throat as well as the chest area after regular intervals, it will make the mucous membranes open, thus allowing the passage of mucous, water and other fluids which will lubricate the sore dry throat.

    Breathe Humidified Air

    While having a sore throat, particularly in winter, if you are sitting in a warm room, it may often lead to irritation of the airway that will make a dry cough even worse. Therefore, it is recommended to have a humidifier in your room to add moisture in the air you are inhaling.

    Throat Lubrication

    A dry throat will make you feel pain while you cough. For this reason, you should try to keep it lubricated as much as possible. In order to do so, you must try to have a hot cup of tea with honey. Having chicken or hot vegetable soup also keeps your throat lubricated.

    Warm Moist Compress

    Putting a warm moist compress or towel on the neck and upper chest area can relax sore muscles by opening mucous membranes which may have been tightened by a persistent dry cough.
