Know your requirements:
First of all, you should know what and how much revamping you need. Sometimes, even a simple contractor can do the remodelling but if you are changing the floor plan of your house then an architect will be the right person for the job.
You must do some research. There are many websites that have a complete profile and contact information of renowned architects. Similarly, many architects have their official websites or at least pages on social networking sites. Visit these pages and make a list of the best architects.
Conduct an in-house survey:
Another way to find and hire an architect is to consult your relatives. Conduct an in-house survey and ask your friends and family members who have recently gone through this construction procedure. They will definitely suggest you some valid names. You may consider hiring a design-build firm as these companies will provide you everything under one roof.
Shortlist the candidates:
Now, when you have lot of options, it’s time to shortlist the candidates. The best way to pick out the right person is to keep your budget in mind and match that figure with the quoted price by the architect. Do not rely on just a single option rather line-up at least three candidates. Call them and ask for a one-to-one meeting.
Have a detailed meeting:
Before finalising an architect, you should have a detailed meeting with them. Ask him or her to give you briefing about their qualification and experience. Tell your requirements and budget, negotiate the fee and then engage the person if you are satisfied.
Formulate the contract:
Last but not the least, you should formulate a contract in which you will describe the job responsibilities and the wages. Ask him or her to read the contract thoroughly and if they agree, then sign it.
