How to Increase a Diamond’s Shine

The shine on diamond jewellery may wear off due to constant accumulation of dust and dirt as time passes. You may have to put in a little extra effort when trying to increase the shine on diamond jewellery especially if you do not clean the jewellery for a long period of time in one go. Increasing a diamond’s shine is a fairly simple task provided that you know the right way to do it.

Things Required:

– Metal Container
– Liquid ammonia
– Water
– Soft toothbrush
– Tea strainer
– A piece of lint-free cloth

Instructions

  • 1

Aqueous ammonia is the best thing to use for increasing a diamond’s shine. In a metal container, mix equal amounts of ammonia and water. There is no need to prepare a large quantity of this mixture because you are not going to wash the diamond with this mixture. You just have to submerge the diamond in this mixture.

  • 2

Put the diamonds in the aqueous ammonia. You just need to ensure that no part of the diamonds is out of the mixture. Set aside the container for approximately 30 minutes. During this time, ammonia will loosen the grime accumulated on the diamonds.

  • 3

Remove the diamonds and clean them with a soft toothbrush. Remember to use a light hand and focus on areas with prongs because grime may be hiding in these areas. Brush the jewellery in circular motion instead of scrubbing it in linear motion.

  • 4

Place the diamond in a tea strainer and run warm water over them. Run enough warm water over the diamonds until all the grime and dirt accumulated on the diamonds is properly washed away. The water will also remove any leftover aqueous ammonia on the diamonds.

  • 5

Place the diamonds in a piece of lint-free cloth and carefully pat them until they are completely dry. Using a piece of cloth for this purpose instead of a paper towel is better because a paper towel will shred and snag on any prongs that may be present on the diamond. When you are done with these steps, you will see that the diamonds will be shinning much more than before.
