If you are looking to make Irish potato cakes, you will be glad to know that the steps involved are extremely simple. Potato cakes are a popular breakfast choice for Thanksgiving Day and St. Patrick’s Day in Ireland. Being Irish by origin, this dish is a rage in many countries all around the world.
Ingredients
  • Potatoes - ½ kg
  • Salt - 0.5 to 1 table spoon or as per your liking
  • Butter - 2 table spoons
  • Flour - 1 cup or 1 1lb
  • Raisins - 1 cup (optional)
Instructions
  1. Make sure that you have all the ingredients required to prepare this delicious dish at home.
  2. Luckily, all items needed to make Irish Potato cakes can be easily obtained from your local supermarket or grocery store.
  3. Wash the potatoes in warm water to get rid of harmful germs and bacteria.
  4. This is an important step. Peel and mash the potatoes after boiling them for at least 45 minutes.
  5. Add butter while the potatoes are hot. Sprinkle some salt over the potatoes as per your taste and liking.
  6. Now add the flour and mix the ingredients thoroughly until you have consistent and a tad elastic dough.
  7. Make sure that the dough is soft, and can be pressed and squeezed with the top of your finger.
  8. Raisins are optional but you can add them to enhance the taste of your dish.
  9. Raisins must be added to the ingredients before preparing the dough.
  10. Roll down the dough, which should be at least one inch thick.
  11. Cut down the dough into triangles; choose any shape which works for you.
  12. Preheat the oven at about 250 degree Centigrade and bake the potato cakes for about 10 -12 minutes on each side.
  13. You can also choose to deep fry the cakes using a cast iron frying pan if you do not have a furnace oven. Split open the cakes and serve them while they are hot.
