Take a large mixing bowl and place one cup of unsalted butter and 2 cups of sugar in it. Mix both the ingredients with the help of a paddle attachment for almost four minutes until the mixture is nice and fluffy. Now add two large eggs one by one and beat the mixture properly.
In a separate large mixing bowl, add the flour, baking soda, and salt. Turn on your mixer at slow speed and gradually add the flour-mixture to it. Continue alternating the mixtures until all ingredients mix thoroughly.
Now form a dough and wrap it properly with a plastic wrap. Put your dough in the refrigerator for almost one hour.
Meanwhile, colour the sanding sugar by putting in a few tablespoons of it in a small mixing bowl. Add the petal dust and mix it until you get the colour you want for your heart-shaped cookies.
Take two of the baking sheets and line them properly with parchment paper. Now flour a flat surface and your rolling pin.
Take the cold dough out of the refrigerator and roll it to around 1/8 of an inch thick. Pick up your sharp heart shaped cookie cutter and cut out the dough with it.
Place your heart-shape cookies on the baking sheets and cool them in the refrigerator for a minimum of 30 minutes. Take out the cookies after 30 minutes and sprinkle some of the sugar sand on them.
Bake your heart-shaped cookies in a 350 degree preheated oven for approximately 10 minutes or until they are golden brown. Transfer your cookies to a wire rack to cool completely. Your yummy heart-shaped cookies are now ready to serve. However, you can decorate your cookies according to the Valentine’s Day theme.
