5 Inexpensive Things to Do to Prepare Your Home for a Quick Sale

There are several inexpensive things that you can do to prepare your home to put on the market to sell. These will increase buyer’s interest without breaking your budget.

1. De-clutter the house. You’re going to be packing anyhow to move, you can do it before you start to show your home. Put away excess photos, and knick-knacks storing them out of view of potential buyers. You want the people to envision themselves living there, so you want them to see the house, not your personal stuff. You want you home to be as clutter free as possible. You want the closets to look full but not over stuffed. If they see a closet over stuff they will have concerns about closet space. When they open up closets make sure it’s clean and organized. Look at a room, if it looks smaller because your furniture is too big, consider taking out some pieces of furniture to open it up more. Having a room that has a lot of space makes the rooms look bigger.

2. Clean everything. This includes places such as the ceiling fans, and cabinets, and move furniture to clean under it. You want your home to be as clean as possible for potential buyers. Pay to have the carpets cleaned before putting it on the market. This won’t be that hard if you have already de-cluttered the home. If you have children buy storage bins to hide the toys during showings. Don’t have toys in every room. Cleaning the entrance way outside will make it look nicer before the people even enter. Make sure that every window sparkles.

3. Brighten up the home. Paint rooms with bright neutral colors. A new coat of paint will brighten rooms up and is inexpensive to do. Bright rooms will show better, look cleaner, and increase your chance of selling quickly. Paint the front door, and the shutters, garage door and the mailbox outside to make it more inviting. Adding higher wattage of light bulbs will brighten up rooms. Take down dark drapes, put up sheets that are bright and crisp and use dowel rods to hang them on.

4. Replace faucets with new ones. These are inexpensive, and a must do if you have a faucet that is dripping. Replace door knobs and cabinet hardware or paint them to brighten them up. This will make the cabinets look newer and will show better.

5. Keep the grass cut and the bushes trimmed to give the home a manicure appearance to get more buyers interested when they are driving by. This is the first thing that the potential buyers see is the outside, if they don’t like the look of the outside, they will never come inside. You can be losing buyers this way.

It doesn’t have to cost a lot to put a home on the market, and using these tips can make your home sell quicker for more money.
