Alternative Treatments to Reduce Your Oily Skin

People with oily skin complain of shiny faces, blemishes and bumps, I know I’m one of them. There are two ways to reduce oily skin, internally and externally but over the counter medications only work temporarily and some seem to make the skin worse. Some have caused my skin to burn and bring out the blemishes even more. However, according to some alternative doctors one way to reduce oily skin is to increase fatty acids in your diet. Fatty acids are found in nuts and fish and you can use these alternative treatments to reduce your oily skin. The first alternative treatment is to use some flaxseed oil to encourage healthy skin. Take one to three teaspoons a day of the oil to help reduce your oily skin.

Next, reduce your intake of red meat and dairy products, which are loaded with saturated fats that clog the pores and lead to more oily skin and blemishes. Eating more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish, and nuts will do the trick. If it is difficult for you to reduce the fatty foods in your diets, like in my case, you can take the supplement lecithin, which is good to break up the fats in your body, just follow the directions on the label. Another alternative treatment to reduce your oily skin is aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is a natural internal cleanser. Add a drop of essential oil of neroli to lavender floral water in a tube and spray the mixture on your skin several times a day. Lavender tones and cleanses the skin and neroli penetrates the skin to help regulate the production of oil. This alternative home treatment works wonders reducing oily skin.

Another aromatherapy treatment to reduce oily skin is to dilute five drops of rosemary, geranium, or juniper essential oil with one tablespoon of apricot kernel or hazelnut. Put three or four drops of the oil on a clean cotton ball and dab it on the areas of your face that have excess oil. Although they are oils, essential oils are lightweight and will not clog your pores or make your face even shinier than it is already. Hydrotherapy is great as an alternative treatment to reduce your oily skin. Warm water activates the oil glands and cool water slows them down. You can try this method in the morning and the evening, but never use soap. In fact, never use plain soap to wash your face if you have oily skin. You can also steam your pores clean to help deep clean oily skin. Use a facial steam machine for about ten minutes twice a week. Before you steam clean your face and cover your eyes and lips with cream. After you steam your face, rinse with warm water and then apply cool water.

Herbal tea is another alternative treatment that works to reduce oily skin. Use yarrow, sage, or peppermint to remove dirt from oily skin. Boil one cup of water and remove the pan from the heat. Add one tablespoon of dried herb or two tablespoons of fresh herb, cover, and steep for 30 minutes. Strain the tea, let it cool for a few minutes, and use right away. Keep the leftover in a cool place for no longer than five days. Whenever your skin is feeling oily, dab the herbal treatment on your face with a cotton ball. You can do this as many times as you like but keep it away from your eyes. Trying these alternative treatments are much better in reducing oily skin than over the counter medications that have harsh products in them.
