Goldilocks and the Three Barrs

It was a hot summer day. The temperature was over 90 degrees. Goldilocks was sweating buckets. Her bleached blond hair was streaked with purple highlights, and her silver brow ring glistened in the sunshine. As she bent over, a rainbow-colored tattoo was revealed just below the waistline of her faded jeans. Goldilocks needed a place to crash. The troubled teen had left home over an argument with her mother.

As she carefully made her way down a country road on her spiked heels, Goldie spied a little brick house. No cars were parked outside. Not a soul could be seen for miles around. Goldilocks pounded on the door, but no one answered. She slowly turned the door knob and, remarkably, the door opened! “I guess the owners of this home forgot to lock their door.” Goldilocks went inside the home and looked around for some munchies to nibble on.

Goldilocks noticed some mail on the kitchen counter. The letters were addressed to the Barr family. “Well, at least I know who lives in this pad.” Goldilocks discovered some chocolate chip cookies and a bag of potato chips. She opened the refrigerator and took out a diet coke. “They sure don’t stock up on food around here.”

Goldilocks munched on some chips and then wandered into the family room. She plopped down on Mr. Barr’s large, comfy recliner and watched MTV on the thirty-six inch plasma screen television. After awhile, Goldilocks grew sleepy. She noticed that one room in the house was for the Barrs’ son. The bed looked too small for Goldilocks to sleep in, but she had a great time playing video games with the Playstation 3.

Afterwards, Goldilocks wandered into the larger bedroom. The queen-sized bed looked inviting. “I think I’ll just drop down here and take a little nap.” She immediately fell into a deep sleep.

A couple of hours later, the Barr family arrived home. They had been on vacation in Las Vegas playing the slots. Mr. Barr immediately sensed that something was not right. “Who opened the kitchen cupboards? The snacks are all gone.”

Mrs. Barr entered the family room. “Say look! The television is on. Someone has been in our house. Harold, did you lock the door before we went on our trip?”

Harold sheepishly shook his head, no. “Sorry mom, I guess I forgot.”

Mr. Barr went into Harold’s room and noticed that the bed looked a little ruffled and the Playstation 3 was on. “Someone has been in your room, Harold. What’s going on around here?”

Just then, Mrs. Barr heard a loud snore coming from her bedroom. “There’s an intruder in our house!”

Goldilocks suddenly woke up from her nap. She cringed as three angry faces stared at her in disbelief. “Uh, hey guys, thanks for letting me crash here, but I really gotta run.”

Before the Barr family could react, Goldilocks dashed out of the house. She left a note by Mr. Barr’s pillow. It said, “I really appreciated my stay at your home. I hope you didn’t mind. I’m having a problem with my mom. I can barely talk to her anymore. She has become just unbearable. Thanks again, Goldilocks.”

Mrs. Barr felt very sorry for Goldilocks. She hoped that the troubled teen would return one day. “Perhaps if we ever see her again, I can cook her some of my famous porridge.”
