Hot Summer TV on NBC

Bored with re-runs and dreading the long summer without any new Law & Order or Crossing Jordan episodes? Luckily for television watchers nationwide, NBC has a full summer lineup planned. From new adventure series to daring dramas, NBC created a schedule that is sure to please the whole family.

Windfall
Money makes the world go ’round. NBC’s Windfall knows that, along with the fact that money and friends do not often mix well. The cast includes several notable young stars, including Luke Perry (Beverly Hills, 90210), Alice Greczyn (The Dukes of Hazzard), Sarah Wynter (24), Lana Parrilla (Boomtown), Jon Foster (The Door in the Floor), and Jaclyn DeSantis (Road Trip). After twenty friends decide to combine their money enter the lottery, they win a fabulous $386 million. Drama ensues as these friends try to live their previously uneventful lives, now seriously complicated by their instantaneous wealth. Each character, of course, choose different paths: the criminal, the illegal, and the unethical make for the one the best summer programs this season.

At the center of this winning group resides the close-knit foursome; Perry plays Peter Schaefer, a loving husband to Nina(Parrilla). Unbeknownst to him, she is drawn to Cameron Walsh (played by Jason Gedrick). Wynter plays his suspicious wife.

Other characters include: Sean Mathers (played by Skin‘s D.J. Cotrona), whose sordid past is threatened to exposure by his winning, Kimberly George (Soul Food‘s Malinda Williams) is young single mother is uses her share to start a new life, and Damien Cutler (Foster), a wild teenager who uses the money to escape his parents.

Premiering Thursday, June 8th, at 10/9c, Windfall is sure bet for some hot, dramatic viewing.

Treasure Hunters
The producers of Project Greenlight and Last Comic Standing unite with Imagine Television to create one of this summer’s hottest new adventure series. Teams attempt to stay ahead each other as they face difficult physical and mental challenges on a quest to find a hidden treasure. Traveling to historically important locations, the teams must avoid elimination by decoding mystifying codes and puzzles. Each clue will take them one them a step closer to the hidden treasure.

Hosted by Laird Macintosh (The Great Raid), the series premiers June 18th at 8/7c. The two hour special will introduce the audience to ten teams, consisting of three players each. The contestants vary, from geniuses to family groups. The regular time slot for Treasure Hunters is Mondays, 9/8c.

The Last Comic Standing
Already under way, this summer hit is back with its fourth season. As with the previous three seasons, talent scouts will travel the nation in search for the funniest comedians. Host Anthony Clark (Yes, Dear) keeps the laughs rolling. NBC has promised a surprise twist that will affect who is chosen to move into ‘the house’. Luckily for the contestants, this season’s ‘house’ is the Queen Mary– the fabulous luxury ocean liner docked in Long Beach, California.

This season also promises more crazy contests, surprise guests, and astonishing twists. America gets to chose the final winner, by online and telephone voting, giving the winner an exclusive talent contract. The show airs on Tuesdays at 9/8c.

America’s Got Talent
FreemantleMedia and Simon Cowell, the producers from American Idol, unite with NBC to find the best variety and novelty acts from across the country. Hosted by Regis Philbin, the show will feature Brandy, David Hasselhoff, and Piers Morgan as judges. Contestants will compete for the million dollar grand prize by proving just how talented they how. Acrobats, magicians, mimes, and more, America’s Got Talent looks to be wildly entertaining. America will vote on the final winner during a live finale.

The show’s two-hour premier airs Wednesday, June 21st at 8/7c.

NBC has good news for the kiddies home for summer, also. Saturday mornings Discovery Kids adds several new shows to its regular line-up, all sure to keep the kids happy- at least until lunch!

Time Warp Trio
A new action-adventure show, Time Warp features three inquisitive kids on an astonishing journey into the past, courtesy of a magic book. Based on the popular book series by Jon Scieszka, the show will provides humor and history in one scoop.

Trading Spaces: Boys vs. Girls
The producers of TLC’s hit show Trading Spaces have set their sites a little ‘lower’ with this kid-friendly version of the show! Teams of two boys and two girls compete in a two-day redecorating challenge. The kids will have the help fo designers to test their creativity and imaginations.

Darcy’s Wild Life
A live-action comedic series, Darcy’s follows the title character adjustments to life on farm. After Darcy’s movie-star mother transfers her entire family from Malibu to a rural farm, Darcy struggles to adapt- resulting in uproarious antics.

Flight 29 Down
A new live-action series, Flight 29 Down, follows a group of young castaways. Stranded after their plane crashes, on an island in Micronesia, the kids must learn how survive the challenges of a tropical island. They find, however, that learning to live with each other may be the more difficult challenge.
