How to Clean a Marine Tank

Crystal clear marine tanks please your eyes and look great. It is important to keep a fish tank clean in order to increase life of the fish present. Clean marine tanks not only make your house appear more beautiful but will keep your fish happy. It is not a difficult task as you can clean it easily by following simple procedure. However, you need to have all the equipments with you before you are going to clean the tank.

Things Required:

– Properly prepared water in the quantity you’ll need to replace
– An algae pad for cleaning the glass inside the tank
– A large bucket (5 gallons or 10 litters, and bigger) according to the size of your marine tank
– A simple siphon-type gravel vacuum (Not a battery-operated gadget)
– Filter media (cartridges, sponges, carbon packets and so on) if you’re changing the filter this time
– Aquarium-safe glass cleaner or a vinegar-based solution

    Use algae pad

    First you need to clean the glass tank before draining the water. Use algae pads for this purpose. Avoid using sponge from your kitchen sink. Get the algae pad which is easily available from your local pet shops. Use a razor blade if there is a stubborn patch. Scrape it off from the tank.

    Use the bucket

    Next you need to start the siphon in order to remove the water. Remember to use a new bucket and to keep a bucket for cleaning purposes only. Soap residue may cause problems to your fishes.

    Clean the decorations

    You should clean your marine tank’s decorations as well. Remove algae from these decorations with help of algae pad. This is usually the result of excess nutrients in the water.

    Replace the filter cartridge

    You need to replace the filter cartridge every month. If unchanged, it may harm your fishes.

    Replace the water

    Next you need to replace the water you took out with treated water. Remember to match the temperature of the fresh water and the aquarium’s water before replacing.

    Clean the outside

    In the end you need to clean the outside of the tank. You need to clean glass, hood and the top of the marine tank as well.
