Getting rid of the doors is the first part. Use a long handled screw driver to remove the screws holding the doors to the hinges. Make sure you hold the door tightly while removing the screws, lest it should fall on your feet after all the screws have been removed. If the door is large in size, you should ask a friend to hold the door for you while you remove the screws.

Set aside the doors when it is detached from the cabinet. Get rid of the metal hinges as well. Use a chisel if necessary.

Filling the holes created when you removed the hinges is the next step. Fill the holes with wood putty using a putty knife. The wood putty you use must be flush with the wood surface, or the patch will look out of place. To make sure the surface is smooth, sand the putty using sandpaper.

Now it comes to the part where you will have to install the trim. Use a tape measure to measure the cabinet openings. The results you get will denote the length of trim you need. Carefully cut pieces of trim at an angle of 45 degrees at the edges. Use a mitre saw for this task.

Install the pieces of trim using finish nails and hammer. If the trim design is complicated, you may not be able to drive nails through the trim without damaging it. In this case, you will have to use a nail punch.

Finishing nails will leave small holes on the surface of the trim. Use a very small quantity of wood putty to fill these holes so that the trim surface is smooth. Finally, to make the installed trim look more attractive, apply a thin layer of paint using a paintbrush. Choose a colour that matches the theme of your room.
