How to Travel With Children on Airplanes

Everyone wants to have a stress-free flight especially when it is a long haul journey. Flying can be unnerving with kids as you may tolerate them if they are getting out of control but other passenger will not bear this at all. Well, I do not blame kids as they are free souls and always hate being restricted.

So it’s your responsibility to keep them entertained while confining them in their comfort zone. Yes, there are always embarrassing moments while flying with children as they can be raucous, disruptive and irritating but you can overcome these problems by following the suggestions given below.

    Remember, every journey starts with first step so you should plan your flight timings as it can reduce your problems to a significant level. Try not to travel in daylight as it will keep your kids awake and ultimately you will have to put an extra effort to keep them under control. On the other hand, they will sleep during night flight which definitely will be a relief for you as well.

    Pick a seat where you think they will feel more comfort. If you want them to have a look at nature, pick a window seat. If they are old enough to walk around, consider aisle seat. You may have to spend extra money but in the end you will see the magic prevailing.

    After you get on plane, take your time to review safety measures. Engage your kids in this exercise and make this a fun activity for them. Let them learn how to get an oxygen mask or life jacket in case of emergency landing.

    Ask them to make a safety card in which they should write their names, parents’ cell numbers, things to do if they get separated from you etc.

    Almost every airline of the world offers in-flight entertainment like films, music and even TV channels. Ask your kids what they want to listen or watch and it will keep them busy for a notable period of time.

    Do not rely on in-flight entertainment alone as children always want new activity after every second. Bring your source of entertainment such as MP3 player, portable video games, colouring books, picture cards, pictionary etc.

    Carrying snacks is another good idea as it will keep your children satisfied. You must have variety in their refreshment as it will keep them intact and surprised. You may carry chips, crackers, chocolate bars. Avoid carrying sticky bubble gums and other things that can melt.

    Engage your kids by giving them different mind tasks. Put different travel and tourism brochures in front of them and ask them to plan the vacation. On return flight, purchase a small photo album then get prints of your digital camera pictures and request them to arrange all those memories.
