It is important to talk to your teen about marriage. You need to let your teen know what a marriage should normally be like and what marriage is all about. Here are ten tips for talking to your teen about marriage.

1. Teach your teen about the importance of marriage. Teens often have a general idea of what marriage is about. You need to tell your teen that marriage is something that only two people that love each other should do. You want them to know that marriage isn’t something to rush into right away with someone.

2. Explain to your teen that marriage is always a serious matter. You want them to know that they should always take enough time to get to know someone completely before they even consider getting married to the individual. Tell your teen that the dating is an important part in life that eventually leads to marriage later on when they meet the right person.

3. Parents usually tell teens about how their parents met each other and fell in love. It is a good example to tell them. You can always tell them about other marriages too. You can mention how long certain people had dated someone before they got married and mention how old that they were at the time.

4. Mention to your teen that it is a good idea to get married to someone after she or he has a good career and makes enough money to support them both money wise. You want them to know that it is difficult to support two people when they don’t make enough money so that is why it is important to have a good job or excellent career before getting married.

5. You want your teen know that it is a good idea for them to get married when they are older instead of young. Explain to them how it benefits them to get married when they old rather than young. You can tell them about how they most likely have less struggles money wise if they wait til they are older to get married since they will be more secure money wise.

6. Explain to your teen the responsibilities that is included with marriage. You can tell them about the process afterwards of getting married is eventually getting a house and starting a family. You want them to realize that it is a big responsibility and it is difficult in the beginning since they aren’t use to it.

7. You want them to know that they don’t need to have a big wedding. Explain to your teen that she or he needs to have a wedding that they can afford unless someone else is paying for their wedding. You want them to realize that costs quite a bit of money to have a expensive wedding.

8. Explain to your teen that not everyone who gets married always gets everything that they want in the beginning. Explain to your teen that it takes money and hard work in order to buy a house and to have nice vehicles. Tell them that it costs quite a bit of money to have and raise children.

9. Explain to your teen that whoever they get married to that they will have to be around their family too. Explain to the teen that will probably need to go over to their spouses family for every other holiday each year or rotate the holidays between each family. You want them to know that they need to compromise on some things when they get married.

10. Tell your teen that when he or she eventually gets married that they will need to take into consideration their spouses needs and wants too. Let them know that she or he can’t be selfish about things. Tell them that it takes work from both spouses to make a marriage stay successful over the years.
