5 Great Celebrity Gossip Blogs

Can’t wait for US Weekly Wednesday every week? Do you need a celebrity news fix daily? The blogosphere has answered your prayers. Everywhere you look there are new celebrity gossip blogs popping up. One might think all these options at your fingertips is wonderful news, but it’s not. Imagine you’re in your cubicle at work and have just have a few minutes to troll the web for pictures of baby Suri or an update on the Jessica-Nick battle – where do you turn? Here is your guide to some great celebrity gossip blogs.

Pink Is The New Blog

Pink Is The New Blog is perhaps the best-known celebrity gossip blog. Run by Trent Vanegas, now of Los Angeles (until just recently though, Detroit of all places), Pink has been written up in Entertainment Weekly, The New York Times, and Blender Magazine. A typical daily post includes the bigger celebrity news of the day accompanied by photographs. These are not regular photographs, however. Vanegas writes captions over them in pink font. The captions aren’t particularly funny and I often wonder if their purpose is just to keep other bloggers from using them (which is ironic because Vanegas doesn’t hold the copyright to most of them).

At the end of the daily Pink Is the New Blog post there are links to plenty of entertainment news. This is where I believe this site really excels. While other bloggers may post just five links a day, Pink Is the New Blog often posts ten to twenty links that touch upon fun tabloid fodder. If I have one main criticism of this celebrity gossip blog it would be the unbelievable amount of spelling and grammatical errors. This is pretty much written at a fourth grade reading level, but I assume most people don’t care about that. All in all, if you don’t mind waiting until the middle of the afternoon for your news (posts post come in mid-day), this is a very comprehensive site that is worth reading.

PerezHilton (aka Page 666)

Perez Hilton, like the above mentioned Trent Vanegas of Pink Is The New Blog, has become somewhat of celebrity by virtue of blogging about celebrities. Obviously Perez Hilton is a play on the gossip-fave Paris Hilton. What Perez does, he does very well. Perez Hilton reports on the usual suspects (Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan, Jessica Simpson), and does it both extensively and expertly. While readers aren’t often treated to a piece of gossip about an off-the-radar celebrity, this is the place to go if you want the big names. Just like Pink, Perez writes over many of the photos he posts, only his captions are funnier. When Perez first started out, he was a lot snarkier, but recent opinion has been that as he cozies up to more and more celebrities he’s backed off a bit on the meanness. Good for him, but too bad for us.

What Would Tyler Durden Do?

Fans of Fight Club will be disappointed to find out that this site has nothing to do with either Tyler Durden or Fight Club. Instead it’s a well written, very witty celebrity gossip blog. Most of the stories here are about female celebrities, I would say maybe there’s one post about men for every six posts there are about women (excluding posts about TomKat and Brangelina since they’re couples). The thing that makes this blog fabulous is that the news isn’t just reported, the blogger editorializes it, and does so with an incredible sense of wit. On Michelle Rodriguez (Lost) who has multiple DUI arrests he said, “I wouldn’t let her drive a Rascal to the mailbox, now she’s back on the streets in a Hummer. Fantastic. Maybe next we can free the tigers from the zoo too, turn ’em loose in the mall. Because this is pretty much the same thing.” If you appreciate your news with a side of funny, this blog is for you.

Goldenfiddle

This celebrity gossip blog does all your work for you. It doesn’t really create any original content, but that’s okay. Instead, Goldenfiddle provides links to the top celeb news of the day. It doesn’t just link to stories about Nicole Richie’s weight loss or a possible sighting of baby Suri. There’s information for every taste here. While some blogs just link to other blogs, Goldenfiddle links to reputable sources as well such as NPR, Vogue, and New York Magazine. The links are not just news stories however, a recent post provided a link to the hilarious Amy Sedaris video interview on The Colbert Report this week on Youtube.com.

Gawker/Defamer

Gawker, based in New York City, and Defamer, based in Los Angeles, definitely have a more fine-tuned, corporate feel. These blogs have a numbers of scribes writing for them. While a lot of the content focuses on the respective cities, Gawker and Defamer can be enjoyed by all. The fact of the matter is, most celebrities live, work, and play in the two cities so it’s not surprising most of the copy comes out of them. What you get with these sites are spottings of celebrities (this comes in great if you travel to one of the cities and want to try and spot celebs; you’ll have an idea of where to go), reports from celebrity attended events, and even stories of feuds. Though I am based in New York, I still find that reading Defamer is entertaining. So you should have no problem finding either site interesting no matter where you live.

While celebrity gossip blogs are a great way to find out about your favorite celebrities, especialy TomKat and Brangelina, remember that they are gossip blogs. Don’t take everything you read as fact. While most of these blogs usually churn out factual information, keep in mind they might not be as reliable as some of the more corporate entities. Regardless, they always make for a great read.
