New Home Cleaning Tips

It is very important to take the time to clean your new home prior to moving in. There are several things that you will want to do after you get the keys for your new home. The list below contains some cleaning suggestions on what needs to be done before moving your furniture in.

The first thing that you need to do is wipe down and disinfect all surfaces. Just because it may look clean , it does not mean that it is. Use whatever disinfectant you use for your own house and wipe down all counter tops, cabinets, floors, and even any railings that can be found in your home. I would not worry about the walls since you will be painting those.

Painting the walls is something that all new homeowners should do. Even if the previous owners said that they have just painted. This helps to give the home a nice new fresh clean look and feel. It will also get rid of any germs and dirt that may have been left behind. If there is old carpeting in the home, instead of just trying to clean it, the better option is to rip it out and replace it. To save money, you can rip the carpet up yourself. If will take a bit of work and effort but it is something that you can get done. Try to get some help pulling up the old carpet. Look at the floor and see if you notice any stains on the hardwood floor. If there are stains or perhaps something that looks like a wet spot, you may want to have it checked by a professional to make sure the wood is not rotting. This can happen if someone spills something on a carpet and it leaks through the carpet to the wood floor. Over time the floor can begin to rot. Unfortunately you may not notice this before you purchase the home, but it is best not to let these things go.

The bathroom is another area that needs a lot of attention. I have found it to be a good idea to purchase a new toilet seat and get rid of the old one. This does not take a lot of work and is very easy to do. You can also find the seats at your local hardware store, or Target, and Wal-Mart. The price range for this type of toilet seat usually ranges from $15 to $20 depending on the design. Once you have completed all of the tasks listed above you are ready to move your furniture in.
