For those that have a love for Chinese food in a quiet atmosphere, Pagoda Gardens may be one of the best Chinese food restaurants in the entire area. Pagoda Gardens offer a six day a week buffet, which changes its menu daily, or you can just order off the menu. The best part is the great value – the buffet runs about $7 per person with tax. In addition to traditional Chinese cuisine, they offer seafood and steaks. For the people who prefer regular American cuisine, they also make one of the largest burger and fries in the area. Adjacent to the restaurant, there is a sports bar which offers daily drink specials and is a popular place for all the St. Louis Cardinal and Rams fans to watch a game on the many televisions located through out the bar. As a bonus, the staff at Pagoda Gardens is friendly and attentive. I’ve been there hundreds of times and have always had excellent service. Pagoda Gardens is located at 329 South Kingshighway, Cape Girardeau, Missouri 63701 If you want to know the daily buffet menu or wish to order take-out, you can reach them by phone number at (573) 334-8931.
If a little spice in your life is what you’re looking for, Cape Girardeau has one of the best Cajun restaurants around. Broussard’s Cajun cuisine located at 120 North Main Street in Cape Girardeau, Missouri 63701. They offer daily lunch specials and a bit of history right in the heart of historic Cape Girardeau downtown area. My favorite is the red beans and rice lunch special they oftentimes run, featuring an all-you-can-eat portion of the Louisiana favorite for around $5. Broussard’s is a definite must for out of towners and locals alike. Broussard’s even offers live entertainment as well as drink specials nightly, call ahead to find out what’s in store for the day. It is so authentic; you’ll think that you are dining in the actual French Quarter of New Orleans.
Now for the history lover, Cape Girardeau has one of the oldest standing commercial buildings west of the Mississippi River. Construction abstracts dating back to somewhere before 1836. Former President Ulysses S. Grant commandeered the building when he was stationed there back in 1861. Since 1977, it has been known as Port Cape, one of the most unique and popular restaurants in the area offering barbeque ribs, baked beans, and other fare. Their claim to fame on the menu is their “Bel-Aire potatoes”, a yummy potato dish that is a favorite with patrons. The food quality is definitely excellent but at a reasonable price, most entrees will run you $8-$12.
