Difference between Joke and Riddle

If you have been getting bored, the best way of passing your time is by sharing jokes with your friends or asking riddles. Although these two activities are mostly seen as fun, one can learn a lot through them.

When you talk about riddles, you can ask things, which have got information about an individual or a place, so that the person guessing it gains something out of it at the end of the day.

Similarly, you can also share those jokes, which have got a message in them. When you are amongst people of your own age group, you can always focus more on entertainment, but try focussing on knowledge and learning more, when you are with the young ones.

Although both riddles and jokes are for fun, this doesn’t mean that they are similar. They have got a lot of differences and you need to learn them in order to find out the real purpose of these two activities.

The main difference between jokes and riddles is their purpose. The former of the two is supposed to make people laugh, especially when there is nothing else to do. People of all age groups share jokes with their friends and family members in order to lighten the mood.

On the other hand, the main purpose of a riddle is not to make anyone laugh, but to challenge someone. Since it is a puzzle, the other person has to think a lot before coming up with a solid answer.

A joke has to be funny every time otherwise there is no need sharing it. Compared to that, riddles can be funny at times, but that is not the main purpose for asking them.

Another difference between the two is that jokes can be understood easily, despite the fact that they might have some hidden meanings too. On the other hand, riddles can confuse you, as they are tricky. Some of them are quite simply, but they are meant for children, so that they can make the guess easily.

Riddles are considered a better way of passing time, as they involve more thinking. Sometimes a person can take a lot of time to guess a riddle whereas there is not thinking involved in jokes, so time doesn’t pass so quickly.
