Difference Between Tamil and Telugu
Tamil and Telugu are two of the most popular languages spoken in India. There are several distinctions between the two languages, but both belong to the Dravidian family of languages. Another thing that Tamil and Telugu share is that they are both spoken in South India mainly; they are also spoken in other parts of the country as well.
The major difference between Tamil and Telugu is that the former belongs to the Tamil Nadu state of India while the latter belongs to Andhra Pradesh — another state of the same country.
Tamil is more common than Telugu as it is not just spoken in India, but also in some parts of Sri Lanka. On the other hand, Telugu is mostly spoken in Andhra Pradesh but has little presence in places like Maharashtra, Chattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Yanam and Karnataka.

Tamil
Tamil is one of Dravidian language, originating in India, and is spoken by a large number of Indian and Sri Lankan people.
Tamil is spoken as a first language by a majority of people in the Tamil Nadu, a state of India, as well as being a second language of a larger proportion of the population in some parts of Sri Lanka.
Tamil enjoys an official language status in Tamil Nadu, with newspapers, books, education material, official documentations used as a tool to further boost the language in the province and state. Tamil boasts a rich history, and some experts date the language to be as old as Sanskrit - one of the oldest languages of the world.
Religious influence in Tamil is pretty visible; different religions use it to disseminate their views and educate their followers.
Tamil also boasts a lively tradition of drama and poetry as well as technical, scientific, philosophical, religious scripture and other texts like news and novels. It continues to be widely used as an ever-growing language in other parts of the world as Tamil people have migrated to just about every country in the past two decades, spreading their language better than ever before.

Telugu
One of the several languages spoken in India, Telugu is mainly spoken in Andhra Pradesh state and is an official language in the state. Telugu is also classified as one the four classical languages of India, standing at the number three position.
Although the language has not been able to expand itself like Tamil and the mainstream Hindi language, but it has stretched beyond the boundaries of Andhra Pradesh in the past few decades. There are a number of people in states like Yanam, Tamil Nadu, Odisha and Chattisgarh, who speak Telugu as their first language and Hindi as their second.
