House of Lords Appointments Commission UK

The House of Lords Appointments Commission is an advisory, independent and non-statutory public body that was formed back in May 2000. The main purpose to establish this commission was to provide assistance regarding transitional arrangements in order to bring reforms in the House of Lords. In addition to this, the House of Lords Appointments Commission also recommends individuals as non-political life peers. It also examines the suggested life peers list and scrutinizes particular candidates that are included in the Honours lists. Some of these roles were partially transferred to this commission from the Prime Minister to bring more transparency in the system. Additionally, the House of Lords Appointments Commission was also given oversight of other appointments in the Lords, which includes partisan nomination as well.
