How to Build a Seat for a Recumbent Bike

You have to build a customised seat for your recumbent bike. If you have just bought your recumbent bike, you can make different kinds of seat for it. You can get the seat manufactured from the company or any other mechanic by providing them the necessary specification. However, it may cost you a lot of money. In contrast, you can make your own seat for your recumbent bike. In this way, you can not only save a lot of money, but you can learn the art of making seats for recumbent bike which can be very useful for you in the future.

    First of all, you have to cut the conduit into suitable lengths. It should be around 36 inches long with around half an inch of tubing. The stretchers will be around 24 inches long and is made by the help of 0.75 inch tubing. Then, you have to cut each piece of the tubing into half. After that, take a file and just clean the corners.

    Now, you have to bend the pieces in order to make the sides of your seat. You have to bend each side in the same measurement and it should be plane. Take first piece and bend it to 45 degrees at the corner to make the centre of around 1.25 inches. Then, take the other piece and bend it to 90 degrees in completely opposite direction.

    Then, make the stretchers of your seat by bending the conduit piece into 60 degrees and 6 inches from the end. Repeat the same procedures with all the pieces.

    Attach all the ends of the stretchers to the corners of the seat and keep them plane and well adjusted with each other. After that, connect the remaining stretchers from the corners and make cuts in them so that they can easily fit into the seat.

    Put the fabric cover on the seat and cut it into half according to the measurements. Fold the fabric over on the seat and use straight needles to attach it properly. You can also sew it from inside so as to attach it firmly.

    After sewing, cut the excess fabric cover and remove it from the seat. Then, sit on the seat and check whether it feels fit or not. Enjoy cycling on your recumbent bike.
