How to Make a Homemade Heating Pad

If you have been experiencing pain in your neck or any other muscle  in your body, a heating pad is one of the best ways to treat such issues. These can be purchased from the market easily; however, some people cannot afford to buy such things simply because of a little pain and stiffness, and have to end up bearing it and toughing it out.

If you are one of these people, and are looking to save money for important things, you always have another option. A heating pad can be made at home and it is as effective as the store-bought ones. In addition, making a heating pad at home does not require you to purchase any extra equipment – everything you need is probably already present in your home.

Things Required:

– Large sock
– Rice or beans
– Microwave oven

Instructions

  • 1

    Take a large sock

The first thing you need to do is get a large sock. You are bound to have a lot of them at home, and some of them are probably not in use anymore. You can pick anyone of them; however, make sure that you don’t choose an ankle or crew sock, or socks that are made of thin material like lace, as these types will not make for effective heating pads. The best thing would be to find a tube sock, as that will serve the purpose better than any other type. Make sure you have washed it properly, and allowed it to dry thoroughly.

  • 2

Fill the tube sock with beans

Once the tube sock is clean and completely dry, you have to fill it up with beans or rice - whichever one is more easily available at your home. If you don’t have any of these things present in your house, you can find some alternative item, which can absorb heat and stay warm for a long time. Don’t fill the sock up completely, as you will have to leave some space at the top to tie it up properly.

  • 3

    Heat the sock

After tying up the tube sock properly, you have to heat it up. The best way of doing so is in the microwave oven. Make sure you do not heat the sock for more than a couple of minutes, as you might end up burning your skin in the end. The ideal way of doing this is by checking the temperature of the sock after one minute of heating in the microwave.

    Place on the affected area

Once you have heated the tube sock properly, you can place it on your neck, back, or wherever you are experiencing pain.
