How to Make a Traditional Pound Cake

Pound Cakes take their origin from Great Britain and are one of the most popular delicacies in the world. They are extremely easy to make and are loved by almost everyone in the family, the older and the younger ones.

The Traditional Pound Cake takes a pound of each of the four ingredients namely butter, eggs, flour and sugar. This is the reason it is called the Pound Cake. These type of cakes are usually baked in loaf pans and are extremely tasty and delicious.

There have been a host of variations in the recipe of the Pound Cake as it is made in different ways in different regions. However, the basic recipe remains the same.

Things Required: Loaf pan, mixing bowls, oven, electric mixer

– 250 grams of unsalted butter
– 1 cup caster sugar
– 250 grams of plain flour
– 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
– 4 eggs
– 3 teaspoon baking powder

    Pre-heat the oven at a temperature of 170°C

    Pour the unsalted butter in a large bowl and beat it with a mixer. Add the caster sugar and the vanilla essence to the butter and continue to beat the mixture until completely combined. Make sure to clean the sides of the bowl in the end so that everything is evenly mixed

    Now add the eggs one by one and continue to beat the mixture to avoid blocks. Stir the mixture with a wooden spoon in between for better results

    In a separate bowl, add the flour and baking powder and mix the two ingredients

    Now add the flour mixture to the large bowl and gently stir with a wooden spoon. The mixing should be gentle as over mixing could result in a rough texture in the end

    Place the mixture from the large bowl to the loaf pan and evenly spread all the sides. An even spreading in the pan would give the Pound Cake a better look in the end. This can be done using the back of a table spoon

    Now place the loaf pan in the pre-heated oven and bake the mixture for about 1 hour. To check whether the Pound Cake is done or not, place a skewer in the centre and if it comes out clean, the cake is ready. In the end, cut the cake into slices for serving
