How to Make Natural Insect Repellent

Insects can be very annoying as they sit on random people and bite them, leaving marks, itchiness, and even rashes. This happens particularly in the outdoors when a person is looking to have some fun. Since there are chemicals of various types in insect repellents that are commercially available, it is not advisable that they be used all the time.

A good remedy for this issue is a homemade insect repellent which is made from all natural products. These are useful as well as completely free of harmful chemicals, which makes them a win-win option.

Things Required:

– Distilled water
– Rubbing alcohol
– Witch hazel
– Different herbs (peppermint, spearmint, lemongrass, etc)
– Essential oils (rosemary, lemongrass, catnip, etc)

    First Option



    One of the sprays can be made with a combination of water and essential oils. Making it is quite easy. Fill an eight ounce bottle to the half mark with distilled water. Next, add witch hazel to fill the bottle nearly to the top.



    Afterwards add essential oils to the solution. Adding 30-50 drops should be ideal for an eight ounce solution. There are different ideas that can be utilized in this regard. You can add a single essential oil or experiment with a combination of different oils. It is purely a personal preference, though in case you mix different oils, make sure that they smell good together. Mix the solution and your insect repellent is ready.

    Second Option



    For the insect repellent made with herbs, you need to boil one cup of water and then add three to four tea spoons of your preferred herbs. You can add a single tea spoon of all your favorite herbs. This should add a great fragrance to the solution. Then, add a couple of cloves.



    Cover it and let it cool down. Afterwards, drain the water into another container and add one cup of rubbing alcohol or witch hazel. Mix it well and it should work wonders. Refrigerate it to make it even better. It will be extremely refreshing for your skin and will keep the bugs away at the same time.

    Rubbing Options



    If you are not looking to go through the hassle, you can simply rub some leaves (both dry and normal) of any kind of mint on the exposed parts of your body. The fragrance should keep the insects away. Rubbing lavender or lavender oil also brings about the desired results.
