How to Make Your Marriage Rock

Marriage is often thought of as the end of a wonderful love story, suggesting that the couple lives happily ever after. That, however, is an extremely simplified version of reality. In actuality, a happily ever after is only achieved through committed and mutual effort of both the spouses, something that does not happen too frequently.

You may think that since you are crazy about your spouse right now, your marriage will be nothing less than a permanent abode in paradise. The everyday challenges, expectations, demands, etc. will do whatever they can to keep your married life from becoming great. However, if you are determined to make your marriage rock, then there are a number of things that you will need to do and keep in mind.

Communication is not only the key to making a marriage rock, but is also the key to keeping it alive. You and your spouse must talk to each other about everything that is worth talking about such as issues, desires, family, etc. A couple that is open and frank with each other always finds itself closer to each other than a couple that communicates less. A marriage is bound to be great when there is openness in it.

Compromise may sound like a bad thing, but in marriage, it is the key to happiness. Support your spouse whenever the need arises. The more they find you by their side when the rest of the world doubts them, the fonder they will become of you. It is this fondness that will eventually make your marriage great.

Do fun things together. Before marriage, you two would have probably gone out a lot, doing things that you both loved. Even if your life was busy then, you were willing to make an extra effort to take out some time for him/her because you wanted to win them over. After marriage, you may not be doing enough to keep the flame alive. Therefore, take out time for your spouse and start having fun together. You can watch a movie with him/her, go to a carnival, play games, go dancing, take some class together, etc.

Physical and emotional intimacy is a must if you aim to make and keep your marriage great. Not only should you frequently show your spouse how much you desire him/her physically, you must also maintain emotional intimacy with them. Hug or kiss them often without waiting for an invitation and say the words that would make them blush. You do not have to control or hide your feelings from them. After all, you are a married couple.

Prepare yourself for bad times. When the going gets tough due to financial or some other issues, a lot of marriages reach a tipping point. You and your spouse should prepare to cope with such times in the best possible manner and not let them take a toll on your marriage.
