A computer virus is software which has the ability to create multiple copies of it and spread to multiple computer systems. It is designed with the intent to cause damage to the computers in one way or another. Most viruses sneak their way into a computer system through the internet, while some of them find their way into the system through the USB flash drives.

There is another variation of malware called worms which also replicates itself when it enters into a computer system. However, unlike a virus it does not attach itself with an existing program in order to corrupt it. It just creates thousands of copies of itself in the computer and slows it down. There are a number of software scams present in the online world that trick the users into believing that they are a tool for removing viruses and worms. But in fact, they are some form of malware, and do more harm than good to the computer.

    Install an antivirus suite. Make sure that you buy a paid subscription of the antivirus program as it offers complete protection against viruses and scam softwares. Keep the virus definitions updated at all times to keep your system safe. Schedule a weekly scan of your complete system to stop viruses from piling up.

    Make sure that you do not click on any dangerous links on the internet. They may install malwares in your system without your consent and cause a lot of annoyance. The Spywares may leak sensitive personal information to their developers. Open the control panel, and in the tab 'Add and Remove Programs', remove any software that you have not installed on the system by will. It will include all those toolbars that gets installed in your system automatically when installing software.
