What Is Industrial Sandblasting and Painting Jobs

Sandblasting and painting are two of the most commonly used processes in the industry of almost every niche.

Sandblasting is basically a process in which small sized sand grits are forced on a surface to make it rough and remove rust, scale and paint from it.

Industrial painting on the other hand is a process of a applying a coat on the surface; the purpose of the coat being more protective rather than aesthetic.

The companies which provide the industrial sandblasting services are also called stripping companies and cater for everything ranging from small sized antiques and tools to huge objects like boats, automobiles.

These companies use a variety of substance to strip a surface. Normally carbon and silicon grits are used to roughen up the surface, but depending upon the specific nature and sensitivity of the object, grits made up of smaller materials can be used.

The size of the grits depends on the nature of the operation, especially its fineness.

There are a number of ways through which a metallic surface can be rid of rust, grease, paint etc. The simplest way is to use a sand paper and gently remove the unwanted coating with it. For larger structures though, this can be really time consuming.

Another method is to use chemical stripping, in which chemicals are coated over a surface. These chemical form a compound with the coating/rust. This compound can then be easily removed. There are however quite a few hazards which can be associated with this process, which in most cases is also time consuming. The best bet therefore is sandblasting.

The general procedure of carrying out sandblasting involves placing the object to be stripped at the blasting booth and filling the blasting apparatus with grits of appropriate material and size. The operator has to wear protective glasses, gloves and rig, and then start from one end, going till the other in small steps.

After the process is done, the stripped object is to be covered with a sealing agent, so that it does not catch rust. Normally these objects are then repainted.

For painting, the materials used are mostly composites, with polymers being one of the major components. This polymer layer forms a protective division between the metal surface and the atmosphere.

There are normally three coats in industrial painting. The initial coat is called the priming coat. The second coat is protective while the third coat gives the final finished look.
