Garden Museum in London

Located at Lambeth Palace road, the Garden Museum depicts 10,000 objects representing 400 years of gardening history, evolving designs and cultural styles of gardens. The museum proudly holds three exhibitions and various events each year. The garden museum provides space for private functions, gatherings and get-togethers. Headed by a very skilled chef, Sorrel Ferguson, the museum’s café serves delicious vegetarian lunch, coffees, and cakes for the visitors. The shop of the museum sells an extensive range of useful garden items including lavender bags, purses, tools, gadgets and books. The Garden Museum is open to school visits, providing children with an opportunity to get to know the heritage of gardening and go through various gardening activities.

    History

    The museum was established in 1977 to salvage the ancient church of St Mary. The church is also the burial spot of Mr. John Tradescent, who is considered to be the first great gardener and plant hunter of British history. The museum went through a refurbishment programme in 2008 when gallery spaces were added to it for exhibitions or events.

    The museum brings an opportunity to the visitors to walk through a rich cultutral heritage of gardening and gardening history by displaying several objects and gadgets related to gardening.

    Tickets and Entry

    The entrance charges for adults is GBP 7.50. For senior citizens, the entry charges are GBP 6.50. Students, however, can enjoy an entry in just 3 GBP. Admission is totally free for children under 16 as well as people on JobSeekers Allowance and anybody who is a carer of disabled people.

    Operational Hours

    The museum remains open from Sunday to Friday between 10:30 am till 5:00 pm. On Saturdays, the timings are from 10:30 am till 4:00 pm. The museum is closed every first Monday of the month except bank holidays.

    How to get there

    By Tube

    Lambeth North underground station is 0.6 miles away from the museum. Move South on Kennington road and turn right onto Hercules Rd. Continue following Hercules road and then turn right onto Lambeth road. At the roundabout, turn right onto Lambeth Palace Rd and you will find the museum on your right side. View Map

    By Bus

    The nearest bus stop is “Lambeth Palace (Stop SP)” and is just 118 feet away from the museum. You can easily cover the distance in 34 seconds on foot. Use buses numbering 77, 507 and C10 to get dropped at the museum. After you get off the bus stop, head Southward on A3036 and you will find the museum on your left hand side. View Map
