Best Italian Cuisine on the Gulf Coast: Dante’s

The best Italian meal can be found right on the Gulf Coast in a family owned restaurant called Dante’s Pizza & Fine Italian Cuisine. Dante’s offers the tastiest Italian food you will ever put to your lips, and every dish is homemade with fresh ingredients. When you eat at Dante’s you will feel like you’ve been transported to Italy for a steamy sampler.

An Italian dish everyone is familiar with is pizza, and Dante’s certainly has the best. They hand-toss and roll the dough and even make the sauce right in the restaurant from fresh tomatoes. They offer four types of pizza: pepperoni, cheese, three meat, and (a Dante’s specialty) Spinach. Each slice of pizza is cooked in a traditional pizza oven, and when a customer orders a slice (or a whole pizza) it is re-toasted until the crust is extra crispy. After that, they top it with Parmesan cheese for a mouth-watering traditional Italian dish.

Another crowd favorite at Dante’s is the calzone. A calzone is essentially pizza dough rolled around a cheese and meat filling. Dante’s stuffs their calzones to the bursting point with a combination of sausage, pepperoni, and cheese. These ingredients combined with their special dipping sauce is enough to make anyone’s knees weak.

And, of course, no Italian restaurant would be complete without pasta. Dante’s has plenty of it, and all homemade. They offer lasagna, chicken alfredo, cheese linguini, ravioli, and spaghetti among other excellent choices. Having personally tried all five, I can say that my favorite has to be the ravioli, but the spaghetti comes a close second. All pastas feature extra sauce either on top or on the side and a combination of four cheeses.

Dante’s also offers a great selection of extras, including salads and desserts. The customer has a choice of traditional salad or pasta salad with their meal order. The traditional salad consists of romaine lettuce, red cabbage, and carrots tossed with cucumbers and tomatoes. The customer also may choose their favorite dressing, and I recommend Dante’s handmade Italian oil & vinegar. The pasta salad is tossed with olive oil and vinegar to give the vegetable pasta an extra kick. The other favorite is the after dinner dessert, and Dante’s offers their very own chocolate mousse – a very light and creamy dish that is perfect for your stuffed belly after that huge meal.

When the customer walks into Dante’s they are greeted with a warm and friendly atmosphere that is reminiscent of old Italy, with Italian music playing softly in the background and friendly waiters who greet you with a smile. The other great point about Dante’s is the low prices. You can get a nice meal of a (huge) pizza slice or plate of pasta, salad, and a large drink for just under $6. Much better than fast food.

Dante’s is a fine place for the best Italian food on the Gulf Coast. You can find Dante’s in the Jubilee Square Shopping Center in Daphne, Alabama and in the Greer’s Shopping Center in Robertsdale, Alabama. These locations are about 20 miles and 10 miles from Gulf Shores Alabama, respectively, and located directly between Pensacola, FL (on the panhandle) and Mobile, AL (the largest city in southern Alabama.)

If you are planning to visit the Gulf Coast, or if you live in the area and are looking for a great place for a romantic date, look no further than Dante’s Pizza & Fine Italian Cuisine.
