TV Shows for Kids: Dexter’s Laboratory
Some of the actors and actresses whose voices can be heard on the show are Christine Cavanaugh, Candi Milo, Allison Moore, Kathryn Cressida, and Eddie Deezen.
Dexter’s Laboratory made its debut on Cartoon Network on April 28, 1996. In total, 137 different episodes have aired since the show debuted. Although it appears no new episodes of the show will be made, reruns of Dexter’s Laboratory are still airing on a regular basis.
Dexter’s Laboratory follows the life of an eight year old boy named Dexter. He plays a young genius scientist on the show and works on many things in his high-tech laboratory that is hidden behind a bookshelf in his room. The show is based most often on the conflict between Dexter and his older sister Dee Dee. Dee Dee loves to see what Dexter is doing in his lab and often ends up ruining whatever it is that he is creating. His parents do not know that his secret lab exists or what he does in his room.
Although Dexter also runs into conflicts with Dee Dee, his true enemy goes by the name of Mandark. Mandark is another genius who tries to steal all of Dexter’s ideas with his evil plans. He also seems to have an attraction to Dee Dee which relays even more of a comedic effect to the show.
The show deals very much with how Dexter handles himself in situations created by Dee Dee and Mandark. He is very awkward in general conversations with other people, making him the stereotypical character of a science nerd.
Dexter’s parents do not appear to have names besides Mom and Dad. The mom on the show seems to relate to Dexter in her perfectionist ways, while the dad seems to relate to Dee Dee. The mom and dad on Dexter’s Laboratory very much play the stereotypical man and woman of the house roles.
Dexter’s Laboratory is a great show for kids because it mixes the science fiction aspect with comedy. Although Dexter is not the typical comical character, his awkwardness and reaction to situations make him funny to kids.
