Easy Italian Sandwich Recipes

Italian cuisine is very popular around the world, with pasta and pizza being two dishes nearly everyone knows about; however, Italian sandwiches are no less either, and are very easy to make – taking no more than 10 minutes of your time. While all major restaurants offer Italian food, you can make your own Italian sandwiches for dinner or lunch, using commonly available ingredients. Much like usual sandwiches, Italian sandwiches also use a loaf of bread, but the difference lies in the dressing for both pieces of the bread, like basil pesto, olive oil etc.

    Layered Italian Sandwich


    - 1 round focaccia bread (about 8 inches in diameter)
    - 1 container (7 ounces) refrigerated basil pesto
    - 4 ounces sliced hard salami
    - 6 lettuce leaves
    - 4 plum (Roma) tomatoes, sliced
    - 6 ounces thinly sliced smoked turkey
    - 4 ounces sliced provolone cheese

    Using a sharp knife cut your focaccia bread horizontally into half and liberally spread pesto on both the slices. Layer salami slices, lettuce leaves, tomatoes slices, thinly sliced smoked turkey and cheese on one half of the focaccia and place the other half on the top. Wrap your sandwich in a thin plastic sheet and put it in the fridge for at least one hour to allow the flavours to blend. Cut your stuffed focaccia bread into 6 wedges and serve with your favourite sauce.

    Italian Country Sandwich


    - 1 uncut loaf (1 lb) Italian peasant-style rustic bread or ciabatta bread
    - 1/3 cup rosemary-flavoured or plain olive oil
    - ¼ lb hard salami, thinly sliced
    - ¼ lb sliced provolone cheese
    - ¼ lb thinly sliced prosciutto
    - 1 small red onion, thinly sliced

    Cut the bread loaf horizontally in half with the help of a sharp knife and apply flavoured olive oil over the cut sides of the bread. Layer thinly sliced hard salami, provolone cheese, thinly sliced prosciutto and thin slices of red onion and cover it with the other slice of bread. Cut the loaf into four pieces and serve.

    Spicy Italian Chicken Sandwich


    - 4 large buns
    - 4 large chicken breasts
    - 2 (14.5 oz.) cans chicken broth
    - 1 small jar of pepperocinis
    - 2 packages of Italian seasoning
    - 1 large onion

    Cook chicken breast in the microwave for 5 to 7 minutes or until no longer pink and shred into small pieces. Put the shredded chicken and remaining ingredients in a crock pot and cook on high setting for four hours and serve in buns.
