How To Babysit a Four Year Old

Taking care of a four year old can be quite tough if you are not used to it. A child becomes extremely curious at this age and at the same time craves for attention from older people.

If you have been asked to babysit a four-year-old, you will have to pay close attention to certain things, such as feeding the child, sending them to bed on time, keeping them out of harm’s way, sharing their interests and most importantly of all, being  prepared to act in case of an emergency.

    Be sure to ask the child’s parents if he or she is allergic to anything so that you can take an extra precaution to keep the child away from that thing. Also try to learn about certain foods that the four year old that you are to babysit likes or dislikes.

    Be prepared to act in case of an emergency. Ask the parents before they leave if there is any first-aid kit in the house. If they do not have anything of the sort, make sure you at least get a pack of bandages.

    Give your undivided attention to the child. If he or she wants to talk to you, listen with interest. If the child wants to play with you, do not hesitate to let your inner child come out.

    Be sure to feed the child. If you are not good at cooking, fix them a pudding cup, a sandwich, or chocolate milk. If the child is interested in eating something else, order a pizza or ask him or her if they want something else to eat.

    Switch on the TV only if the child is interested in watching cartoons or a film. Make sure that the film is appropriate for four year olds.

    If you notice the child getting sleepy, take them to their bed. Tell them a short and interesting story if they request you for it.

    Keep your eyes on the four year old at all times. You do not what the child to get too close to the appliances or any other thing that can cause them harm.

    Do not act too bossy. Try to become friends with the child instead of a babysitter. Do not treat him or her as a child. Try to have a conversation with them, asking them about their interests.

    If you get a call from a friend who wants to have a long conversation with you, let them know that you are busy babysitting and will talk to them later.
