How to Make a Zesty Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Grilled cheese has been an old favourite. It is one of the simplest and fastest things to put together yet it is so tasty. It can be a snack, a meal or a comfort food. People of all ages enjoy it and keep craving for more. So curb your hunger with this tasty dish. The combination of cheese and butter make it hard to resist. Follow the recipe below to create a winner.

Utensils: skillet, spatula, knife, plate


– 2 slices whole-wheat bread
– 2 slices Gouda (not smoked) cheese
– 6 or 7 slices of picked jalapeno
– Butter or margarine

    Turn on the stove to medium high and heat the skillet. Take the slices of bread and spread some butter on one side of both the slices. Keep the other ingredients on the side so that they are ready for assembling the sandwich. Check the hotness of your skillet by sprinkling a few drops of water on it. If the water sizzles then you are ready to start cooking.

    After the pan is ready, take one piece of bread and put it on the skillet with the buttered side facing downwards. Take two slices of cheese and put them on top of the bread. Sprinkle the sliced jalapenos on top of the cheese. Top this with the other piece of bread. Keep the buttered side facing upwards.  You should be quick while doing this so that the bread doesn’t burn.

    Let the bread brown a little and the cheese to melt. This will take around 3-4 minutes depending on the heat of your stove. Be very cautious to avoid burning. You can check how brown it is by using a spatula. Just lift the sandwich and take a look below. If it has started to crisp and brown a little, it is time to change sides.

    Be very careful while flipping the sandwich so that it does not break or fall down. Also the jalapenos might slip out so you need to keep it straight and balanced. In case they do slip out, do not get panicked and slide them in. let the other side get brown for around 2-4 minutes. Remove the sandwich from the pan and cut it in half. Serve immediately while the sandwich is hot and the cheese is perfectly melted.
