How to Make Beeswax Lip Balm

Sometimes when it gets too cold or hot, some people end up having rough and itchy lips, which results in pain and discomfort.

There are several lip balms and lip guard products available in the market but you can try making this at home as well. You may not be interested being an owner of a cosmetic store, but as a middle school science student, preparing any such thing will be nothing less than making a project. So if you are looking for ideas on a science project then performing this experiment will certainly be an innovative idea. This will not only be a simple science experiment that you can demonstrate, but you may also go on to use this for treating lips when required.

Before carrying out the experiment just make sure you have the following available.

Ingredients:

– 1 tbsp beeswax
– ½ tsp honey
– ¼ tsp baking soda
– 2 tbsp coconut oil
– Several clean tin lids, or small tin or glass jars
– 1 microwave-safe bowl
– 1 fork or whisk
– Wax paper
– Aluminium foil or Saran wrap
– Essential oils (optional)

Instructions

    The Beeswax and Coconut Oil

    Put the beeswax along with coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl. You should use half of the beeswax for making softer lip balm and can use the whole tablespoon to make it a bit firm.

    Melting in Microwave Oven

    Place the bowl in a microwave oven for about three minutes aftee covering it with a piece of wax paper. Make sure you don’t end up overheating, so keep checking after every 30 seconds.

    Taking out of the Microwave

    Take the bowl out of the microwave oven once the mixture has finely melted. Avoid spilling of the mixture as it can burn you.

    Adding other constituents

    Now add baking soda, honey, and essential oil to the mixture and keep on beating together for at least a minute with the help of a stirrer.

    Allow cooling

    Once the mixture appears even in color, pour it inside jars or tin lids and allow time to cool. Have the jars covered till they are hard enough to be used to avoid contamination.
