Writers Group Publishing Stories of Katrina and Rita in Book

The Story Circle Network is looking for submissions for a new book, Catastrophe, Survival, and Recovery: Stories from the Storms regarding Hurricane Katrina and Rita.

Journal and web entries are wanted and you can enter online at storycircle.org/Katrina. To help people explore their feelings about the storms the organization invites people to share their experience whether they are an evacuee, a volunteer, or a witness via the national media. To contribute to their archive, you may use the on-line form at the website.

Story Circle recently donated 100 copies of Discoveries, their blank journal book, to the Austin Red Cross center’s counseling center to help the women evacuees put their stories down on paper.

The Network is also taking submissions for Katrina stories for consideration for their Journal’s December issue and the deadline is Oct. 15th. The name of the issue will be “A Tempestuous Time.” You can pen your story in prose or poetry, holding to a 300-word limit and send to maryjo_d@yahoo.com or by snail mail to 531 Steeles Fort Road, Raphine, VA 24472.

“As you reflect on the emotions you’re experienced since Katrina, it’s likely you’ve recalled tempestuous events in your own life,” said Mary Jo Doig, True Words editor.
“I look forward to receiving singular, matchless stories for our next journal.”

The Network’s Third National Women’s Memoir Conference will be held Feb. 3-5 at the Red Lion Hotel in Austin, TX. A Dutch-treat dinner will take place at the hotel restaurant on Feb. 3rd from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and again on Saturday.
