Department for Communities and Local Government London

The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) was started in 2001 as Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM), with the then Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. John Prescott as its head. It was separated in 2002 and in 2006, this entity was renamed as DCLG. Its executive agencies are Fire Service College, Planning Inspectorate and Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre. DCLG’s non-departmental public bodies are the Homes and Communities Agency and Academy for Sustainable Communities formed in 2008. In the same year, the National Improvement and Efficiency Strategy was also formed with the local government’s collaboration which further gave way to the formation of nine Regional Improvement and Efficiency Partnerships (RIEPs) for sector-wise betterment of the councils.

    Facilities & Services

    DCLG helps the government in decentralizing UK government's powers to local communities by making them responsible for planning. The purpose is to create safer communities and encourage a strong local government to rejuvenate the communities that are impoverished and have lagged behind economically. DCLG is also working in association with Fire and Rescue Service to reduce casualties and give fire response trainings to the public. Moreover, it also works to create more and safe homes for the public and provide them with the opportunity of a right to purchase or to to get a home through mortgages.

    By Tube

    From the nearby Victoria tube station, move northeast on Wilton Rd/A202 towards Victoria St/A302. Continue onto Allington St and turn right to stay on Allington St. And then making a left onto Bressenden Pl/A302 will help a commuter in finding the DCLG office on his right side. View Map

    By Bus

    The bus stop “Belgravia, Victoria Bressenden Place (Stop 30A)” is at a stone’s throw away from the DCLG. You may use the buses numbered 741, 742, 748 or 758 to reach this bus stop. From the bus stop, move a few steps in southeast direction on Bressenden Pl/A302 towards Allington St to reach the DCLG office.
