How to Measure the Rocker of a Surfboard

If you are a surfboarder, you know how importance part the ‘Rocker’ is. It is also called the bottom arc of the board. It won’t be wrong to term the rocker as the most critical part, as it gives the real tone to the board.

The rocker is entirely responsible for setting the tone that how the board is going to work in the ocean. If you are interested in shaping up your surfboard, it is crucial to get the rocket right.

The rocker is actually the curve from nose to tail. This curve may look like a banana. It means that the less the rocker is, the flatter the board will be. According to the surfing experts, a board with a flatter rocker gives more stability to the rider in the water.

On the other hand, a board with a greater curve is useful for producing more manoeuvrability. The board with greater rocker are used only by the expert surfboarders. Measuring the rocket should not be hard, if you are familiar with the surfboards. There is no need to ask someone else to do this for you.

– Flat surface
– Long and straight level
– Measuring tape

    First of all, take a nice look at the rocker. You are required to get yourself a good long level. It should be straight and long; however, it does have to be level essentially. Put the level right in middle of the board.

    It is the time to note down the dimensions of the rocker. Take the measurements with the tape. Make sure one end of the tape is touching the level, whereas the second end at the level of the board. Usually, the general rockers run between one and a half to two and a half inches. But it entirely depends on the length of the board.

    The nose rockers run anywhere between three and a half to six inches. Take measurement of both sides to see which category you board belongs to.

    Once you have taken the measurements, you will be able to know what sort of board you have. If the board is flat with a tiny curve, it will go faster. On the other hand, if the curve is big, it will help you play tricks on the water.
