BDSM Scenes & Electrical Play: Violet Wands, TENS Units and Bug Zappers

Zap! Zap! Buzzzzzzzz! Does even the idea of erotic electrical play send your heart into racing arrhythmia? It used to scare the hell out of me, too! When I saw a couple playing with the Violet Wand on the dungeon floor, I was absolutely positive they were out of their minds! Well, it turns out, they were out of their minds, but the submissive was out of her mind with pleasure, and the Dominant with his power to sexually ‘charge’ his submissive!

In our usual safe, sane and consensual style, my Dominant and I decided to explore and study Electrical Play, to ensure my safety and well-being (and to ensure that I wouldn’t rip his head off and shove it through his neck cavity if he hurt me). We read the interesting history of Violet Wands. They have been used in attempts to stimulate hair regrowth, calm hysteria and a lot of other semi-medical quackery methods. We went to an organized demonstration at our BDSM club, we read several excellent and in-depth manuals written by experienced electrical play Dominants, and finally we decided to buy a starter kit of our own.

Violet Wands

We searched the internet, including online auction sites. We found several superb sites, with information, safety tips and products: http://www.violetwands.net and http://www.stockroom.com (an online catalog and information source about everything from nipple clamps to scene costumes!) are my two favorite sources for Violet Wands. Tons of fun accessories and great prices!

Our kit had:
The Violet Wand with 10 ft cord,
 a rake comb attachment,
 a chain flogger attachment,
several bulb type attachments for various body parts,
a fun and semi-scary cheerleader type pom pom flogger made of tinsel,
several small electrode probes of varying freakiness and size

Our Violet Wand arrived in a few days, and we started experimenting, trying to find the most erotic settings and learning to work the attachments. We designed a BDSM Scene around the Violet Wand, and proceeded to wait anxiously for the play time. Let me just say – Bzzzzzzzzz! I love it!

We chose a Ceramic Core Violet Wand. They cost a bit more than wax core Violet Wands, but after reading and researching a ton of Violet Wand sites, we decided that was the one we wanted, for the lasting power and reliability. Wax Core Violet Wands can shut off from extended play, and heck, it just wouldn’t do to be in the middle of a sexually- charged BDSM Violet Wand scene and lose the juice. Also, just a warning from me – try to not touch any damp or moist surfaces (i.e, inside mouth or other mucous membranes) because that can seriously hurt and that might just ruin your scene.

TENS – Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulator

Now, the awesome thing was that while searching for Violet Wands, we found a large variety of TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulator) Units. TENS is used in the management of pain, a fact that we both found incredibly funny, considering that we wanted a TENS to create erotic pain! And, actually we have, since purchasing our TENS, used it for its intended purpose. It works well for working out the knots from a aching back, almost as well as it does for giving nipples a great erotic buzz.

Chat with your physician, if she is aware and accepting of your lifestyle choices, and see if she’s got a supplier or, check out these online suppliers: http://www.medicalsupplygroup.com, http://www.triadhealth-care.com, and for an amazing array of electro-stimulation toys, http://www.extremerestraints.com.

Bug Zappers

These evil things are sold in any hardware or home and garden store. In my personal experience, even a bug doesn’t deserve the bug zapper! The handball shaped ‘racket’ has a center made of criss crossed wires, and the theory is that you swing it at a bug, the bug gets stuck between the wires and ZAP! Well, in BDSM scenes, it is usually swung at derrieres, and believe me OUCH!

These ‘toys’ are electricity based, and, as such, you will want to have all the information on safety and possible side effects you can find before even thinking of trying a Violet Wand, TENS or even that damned Bug Zapper. Safety concerns should be paramount in any BDSM activity, and the Key to Safe, Sane and Consensual BDSM Sceneing is knowledge. Sexuality.org has a great introductory safety page, just search for ‘violet wand safety’ at http://www.sexuality.org.

I would highly recommend finding an experienced electroplay practictioner to observe, and when they are NOT involved in a scene of their own, ask if they would consider sharing their knowledge. Another terrific way to learn and become competent in Violet Wand and other electroplay is to attend a workshop at your local BDSM Dungeon. BDSM is coming into the realm of interest for many people, and most every city of a decent size has facilities and groups you can participate in with energy (no pun intended!). Jane’s Guide is a great resource site for locating all types of alternative lifestyle groups, vendors and activities. They have resources in every state and in many non-US countries. http://janesguide.com

If this article has ‘sparked’ your interest, (wow, this is just full of puns waiting to happen), and you want to ‘light up’ your loving, do your research, gain proficiency, and have FUN! Violet Wands, TENS and for some people, even the Bug Zapper, can be a lot of erotic ‘charge, and adding to your repertoire of BDSM Competencies can really add to your ‘glowing’ resume!
