The most important thing is to get their undivided attention. Parents have a lot of things on their minds and are usually doing some tasks at home, they won’t be able to give you the required attention if they are making the grocery list side by side or checking your younger sister’s school work. Ask them to talk to you when they are done. When you get their time, you should be prepared with what you say. Use a polite approach and tell them your stance while respecting theirs.

You just don’t have to talk, be ready to listen to them too. It does not mean that you agree with everything they say, but give them a chance to say what they believe. This way you will be able to look at the situation through their eyes and understand it better. Try to completely analyze before making conclusions. You should be ready that there will be some taboo topics involved. Your parents may talk about hormones, puberty or sex. It might be embarrassing but hang in there. It is natural that they will have some reservations regarding these so be prepared to listen and answer.

Ask your parents about their experiences. They have been through this stage and made decisions too. If you get to know about their life, you will understand why they are emphasizing on certain topics. They can even help you in some problems and decisions if you have a good equation with them. If at any point you feel your anger rising, just try to be patient. Politeness is the best way to deal with them. If you start getting rude, they might go to an extreme and ground you. It is ok if you want to take a break because you feel frustrated. Tell them that they should think over your points and that you will too.
