How to Block Out Light from Window

Sunlight can be very irritating at times, especially during hot summer days. The same holds true for light that may find its way into your room while you are fast asleep at night. People often think of possible ways of blocking out light that is coming in through the windows. Fortunately, the task of blocking out light is very simple and does not take more than a few minutes for each window. The more the windows are shaded, the lower your electricity bills during summer will be, because a smaller amount of heat will enter your house.

Things Required:

– Shades or thick wooden blinds
– Drapes
– Dark-coloured, thick blankets

One the quickest and most effective ways of blocking out light from windows is to install shades behind the window drapes. For a classier look, you might want to use thick, wooden blinds instead of shades. However, before choosing either of the two aforesaid items, decide how much you can spend on each window and then choose accordingly. Keep in mind that shades will cost you less as compared to thick wooden blinds. If you have a very large number of windows and your budget is somewhat limited, it would be best to use shades.

Consider using drapes manufactured in small panels that can be drawn across a window. Even though it is much easier to install drapes as compared to installing shades or blinds, the drapes option will cost you more.

For a quick solution, consider tacking dark coloured, thick blankets across the window. This technique works best if you are in a situation where none of the above-mentioned options can be used immediately. Be sure to fold the blankets around the edges of the window frame to prevent the entry of light through that area. The blankets will not only block out light, they will also absorb most of the heat and will thus keep your room relatively cool during hot summer days.

Do not use the blanket option as a permanent fix. As soon as possible, invest in shades, thick wooden blinds or drapes, as per your budget and preferences.
