In 1860, on the site of this ground, a cricket pitch was laid down by a local church and later in 1888 and 1889, Paddington Cricket Club made efforts to lease 9 acre of land for sports and recreational activities. The same ground was converted to a charitable trust in 1896. The gardens and green lands present in the southern part of the ground were built in memory of boy scouts who embraced death from 1939 to 1945. Later in 1987 to 1989, major refurbishment works took place.
