History of Dubai Marina UAE
Dubai Marina is one of the modern wonders of the world – an artificial city that, once completed, will house more than 120,000 people in the residential complexes. It is being constructed near Jebel Ali Port; an area known for the Dubai Internet City, American University of Dubai and Dubai Media City.
The inspiration for this massive project was taken from Concord Pacific Place development along False Creek in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Its first construction phase has already been completed and the credit for morphing this project into reality goes to Emaar Properties. Once completed – this city will be another jewel in the crown of Dubai and a major commercial, business and residential hub.
The concept behind Dubai Marina is to have a ‘city within a city’ on an area of about 578ha. It was in 1999 when Emaar Properties gave HOK the task to develop its master plan. Since the place was going to be built from scratch, with a motorway on one side of it and beachfront on the other, Emaar properties and HOK had a lot of difficulties to face.
However, they also had the freedom to create the city they had envisioned. A hallmark of architectural design and creativity, the first phase of Dubai Marina’s construction has been completed.
