In order to mount a GPS system on a motorcycle, an appropriate mounting apparatus is required. Since there are a number of companies which manufacture GPS systems for motorcycles, you would want to ensure that you purchase the correct GPS model for your motorcycle.

You will need to consider the type of roads on which you travel every day. For people, who mostly ride their motorcycles on main roads (highways), a standard GPS unit would work fine. However, if your travels take you to off-roads, it would be better to invest in a more advanced GPS system which allow you to use more detailed, speciality maps.

Furthermore, make sure that GPS system you invest in is accurate, irrespective of the type of roads on which you ride your motorcycle.

Weather is another factor that you will have to take into consideration. Since there is no protection for a motorcycle GPS system in terms of weather conditions, it would be wise to invest in a GPS unit enclosed in a weatherproof case.

You would want to purchase a GPS unit with a screen that can be easily read in different kinds of weather conditions such as rainy, foggy etc.

Battery life must also be catered for. A GPS unit with a long battery life should be preferred. Moreover, you should be able to charge the unit using power from your motorcycles battery; especially if the life of the GPS system’s battery is relatively short.

Finally, you would need to consider the budget at your disposal. Choose a GPS system which falls within your budget range and has most, if not all, of the features detailed above.
