How to Confront People Who Hurt You

When people do or say something that is mean, unfair and unexpected, you are bound to feel hurt. However, this is just a part of life and no matter how much you complain about it, you will continue to experience it time after time.

Nearly everyone comes across a hurtful person at some point in their life. There are various ways to deal with such people. Running away is not always an option and therefore one needs to learn to deal with hurtful people in the best possible manner. You will need a lot of tolerance and patience to confront people who hurt you.

    One of the best ways to deal with people who hurt you is to actually go over to them and tell them how you feel. Maybe they are not aware of the effect that their actions and words are having on you. Be polite to them while expressing yourself and listen when they start talking. Do not react if something they say offends you. Simply walk away quietly if talking did not do you any good.

    Do not start giving explanations when you hear someone saying hurtful things about you. It can result in an escalation of emotions, mainly your hurtfulness and the other person’s anger. Just give the situation a bit of a time to simmer down and then talk about it if you must.

    You should learn to detach yourself from people who hurt you. Stop letting their actions and words hurt your feelings. If someone does not care about you or how you feel, then you should return the favour. It may prove to be a bit difficult at first, especially if you are really attached to that person, then it will do you a lot of good in the long run. You do not want yourself to become or remain vulnerable to insensitive people. Instead, surround yourself with people who respect you and care about your emotions.

    Start ignoring the hurtful person. There is nothing better than giving someone the silent treatment to convey your anger and disappointment. They may try to provoke you by continuing their hurtful behaviour and actions, but you must ensure that you do not let your emotions get the better of you. Keep in mind that the more you react to what they say, the more encouraged they will feel to carry on. If they did something really hurtful, then stop acknowledging their presence or their very existence.
