How to Do Skin Polish At Home

Skin polishing is a technique used to remove the dead cells from the top most layer of your skin, revealing fresh layers underneath. Skin Polishing plays an important role in keeping your skin hydrated, and is offered at nearly every Spa. However, you can also polish your skin at home, given that the things required can be easily bought from the local cosmetic and drug stores.

Things Required:

– Virgin olive oil
– A pumice stone
– One body scrub cloth
– One large looped wash cloth
– One fine looped wash cloth
– One piece of soft flannel
– One pair of cotton gloves
– One pair of silk gloves

Instructions

  • 1

    Soften your skin

Start by softening your skin with virgin olive oil. Apply few drops of a good quality virgin olive oil to the area that needs polishing and wrap it in a cotton towel for 30 to 40 minutes.

  • 2

    Get into shower

After your skin has softened properly, get into the shower and apply a mild soap on a piece of rough washcloth. Gently rub this cloth on your skin in circular motions. You can apply a little pressure to exfoliate the skin thoroughly but do not overwork it.

  • 3

Rub pumice stone on rough areas

Rub the rough areas of your body, like elbows, ankles, knees and heels with a pumice stone. Make sure you do not rub the pumice stone too hard, which can crack your skin.

  • 4

Rub large looped and fine looped cloth

Now rub the areas to be treated with a large looped cloth. After having scrubbed thoroughly with a large looped cloth, repeat with a fine looped one. This step also needs quick but thorough application.

  • 5

Pat dry with a soft towel

After having rubbed the looped cloths on your skin, dry it completely by gently patting with a soft towel.

  • 6

    Buff with flannel cloth

Now buff your skin in rapid circles with a flannel cloth. Do not exert pressure on the skin, especially the treated areas .

  • 7

    Buff with cotton gloves

Wear a pair of cotton gloves and gently buff your skin once again in circular motions, paying attention to the areas that still feel rough.

  • 8

    Buff with silk gloves

Remove the cotton gloves and put on silk gloves to repeat the above step. You can also use sable mitt to buff your skin if desired.

  • 9

    Moisturise

Finish off by applying a small quantity of moisturiser to the treated areas.
