How to Give Oily Skin a Facial

Oily skin is the result of overactive sebaceous glands and is more prone to dullness as compared to other skin types. The over-production of sebaceous secretions leads to unwanted shine and glow, clogged pores, blackhead formation and acne flare-ups.

To avoid these skin problems, it is necessary to keep your skin clean by taking regular facials at a beauty salon or at home. There are lots of over-the-counter products you can use for an oily skin facial. However, remember that facial massages with creams and moisturisers are not advised for oily skins. A facial treatment for oily skin consists of deep cleansing and exfoliation, followed by face massage, mask application and post facial protections.

Masks and subsequent protection measures help control excess oil secretion, shrink the pores and make the skin soft and smooth. You can always go for a fruit facial to combat oily skin issues. The acids in the fruits neutralize the oils in the skin, leaving it soft and supple.

Instructions

  • 1

Take a light cream or face lotion to cleanse your skin.

  • 2

Now deep cleanse it with a cleanser formulated for oily skin.

  • 3

Massage the cream into your skin for at least 10-15 minutes, making sure all the areas of the skin – especially the oiliest ones (nose, cheeks and forehead), are covered.

  • 4

Next take chopped tomatoes, oranges or limes (or a mixture of all of them) and use them to massage your face gently for 15-20 minutes.

  • 5

Extract the blackheads and whiteheads, if any.

  • 6

To get rid of embedded impurities, steam your face for about 15 minutes.

  • 7

In the end apply a face pack of fruits. This will make your skin brighter and less dull. To make the pack, crush a pineapple or papaya and add honey in a 1 to 10 ratio, that is one part honey for every ten parts of fruit. Apply this pack on your face and let it set for 10 to 15 minutes and rinse off with lukewarm water, followed by a few cold splashes. Apply a moisturizer if necessary.
